We installed a very interesting kit building on our current landscaping job, a gazebo made in Sweden. We acquired it locally from an importer who has been very helpful in understanding the assembly process. To be honest, for me the installation was a piece of cake. Not only have I been a builder for most of my adult working life, the geometry of an eight sided building lends itself to some obvious construction processes. Its also very carefully, very cleverly planned. This is their smallest model, one they identify as the seven square meter size.
I took pictures of the assembly, but to me its much more interesting to show my readers the process of fabricating a simple set of stone stairs. Here we used sawn and split slabs of Pennsylvania bluestone.

I set the bottom stair on a bed of finely crushed rock that I have tamped solidly. It’s level from left to right and it has a 1% pitch away from the entry. I don’t want puddles on the step and also I dont want water to run toward the building. I cut a second slab to make a top step. I cut from the bottom most of the way through and snapped the rock to give the top side a naturally cleaved look.

Someday maybe we can visit America and go to the Fasoldt Gardens. Looks very beautiful.
