A family-style gourmet restaurant in Ballard cited in what likely was a machine shop for the marine industry on Leary Ave. If you’ve been in Ballard long enough to remember where Harris Ford was, it’s two blocks to the east- toward the bridge. This was our second time dining there and the chef rembered us!

The menu is a fixed, four course meal that includes a cocktail, Nancy had a ginger-burboun, I had a Hilliard’s tall can of amber ale. We were celebrating our newly arrived good friend from when we lived in NYC, also a Nancy who has turned 45. That’s the new 25 by the way.

The meal was excellent. I’m not going to do justice to the experience by attempting to convey its mastery with my typical word butchery, so I’ll summarize it by listing the contents of each course. First was a flatbread with a babajanooj-like eggplant goop. It had honey. Yum.

Next, a raddicio salad with candied berries and sweet corn. Yum.

The entree was seared albacore tuna loin fresh (no exaggeration) off the boat. He crusted the sear with a sumac berry, it was the kind of tart that made the tongue numb. Each hunk had a raw core. Yum.

Along with the entree was served a fingerling potato dish with green peppers sautéed in Spanish olive oil. Alright.

Last was a homemade pistachio ice cream and an oatmeal honey cookie. Nancy had a candle in hers as well as a chorus of happy birthday by the two person staff and we twelve dinner patrons.

Call for reservations. The menu is decided the morning the chef spends at the neighborhood farmers market. All food is local where possible

    OOOH, I missed it. To bad, I’ve heard so much good about the place. Oh well, I guess sleepy Ballard has to change. It’s too bad the clever little places have to get r-u-n-n-o-f-t by the expansionist rents.
