A Modular Concrete Paver Patio featuring a circle kit.

A Modular Concrete Paver Patio featuring a circle kit.

We install lots of hardscape projects from patios to walkways to driveways.  The modular block projects are kind of boring for the guys to install because there’s just not much opportunity to use their creativity like when we install flagstone or cut stone, but throw in a circle kit and the guys really enjoy their task.  It’s a combination of the fun of figuring out where to fit the pieces of a puzzle as well as a pride we all take in the finished product.  A circle is really a nice upgrade to a paver patio.  It has an old times look that is reminiscent of a European piazza and the subtle visual interest of a pattern that catches the eye in a place that usually is just background.    If you’re considering this as a DIY project keep in mind there’s lots of cutting, so rent a professional block saw.  Also, the base prep is super important.  Note how the guys take care to not step on the bedding material.  We use a crushed basalt rock base in lieu of a sand bedding, it holds up to the extensive compaction we’ve learned is necessary for long lasting quality.
