Do you know the adage that goes something like: “the best restaurants are the ones filled to capacity with locals seated inside as well as waiting outside for dinner at 5pm on a weekday?” Well, it goes something like that but it describes exactly a tiny Japanese storefront restaurant in the Lake City neighborhood of Seattle. Its superb.
When Nancy and I were younger, when we lived in NYC, when my buddy Joe Keefe and I worked for an Israeli born contractor who paid us in cash- Joe and I would take turns treating each other and our girlfriends to ala carte sushi after work on Friday. Often the meal would cost a few days pay for our turn to treat, but back then we were a combination of underpaid kids, ravenously hungry, enthralled with this exotic food, and eager to show off our fortitude. In all those culinary adventures, all those evenings out ordering the most unusual things we could identify on the menu, we might well have missed the boat. The food was always thrilling, but to a more mature pallet, a thrilling experience at mealtime is eclipsed by the gourmet. Toyoda Sushi serves authentic dishes created by a gourmet.
Our host has been the restauranteur’s daughter, Emma. The chef sends over off-the-menu delicacies to our gastronomic delight! We had a wonderful time and an excellent meal.
Thank you Emma. Thank You Helen, and thank you Chef Toyoda!
