14 Jan Gabion Retaining Wall
A customer wanted to resolve a sharply sloped and sunny area along their driveway and asked us to build a concrete retaining wall. We do lots of those, but so does every landscape construction contractor in Seattle. For quite a while, we’ve been looking forward to a project where we could install a gabion (wire basket full of rocks) retaining wall, and this customer was onboard!
The short video demonstrates the process. It took about two workdays to construct, and a few more hours to administer and to procure the wire baskets. For a consideration of cost: it was about 20% less than the cost of a monolithic concrete retaining wall and maybe 50% less than a dry stack stone rockery.
